Staff Accountant
The objective of a staff accountant's job description is to accurately record and maintain financial transactions, update the general ledger, prepare financial statements, and reconcile accounts. This role ensures that the company's financial records are precise and compliant with accounting standards, ultimately contributing to the organization by providing reliable financial data for decision-making and assisting the Chief Financial Officer.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Financial record keeping: tracking and recording financial transactions to match the company's accounting records by reconciling bank statements.
- Bank statement reconciliation: Verifying that bank transactions match the company's accounting records by reconciling bank statements.
- Accounts payable/receivable manager: processing invoices from vendors (AP) and customer payment(AR)
- Financial reporting: Preparing and analyzing financial statements such as balance sheets, income, and cash flow statements.
- Auditing support includes assisting with internal and external audits by collecting necessary documentation and addressing audit inquiries.
- Compliance with GAAP: Ensuring all accounting practices adhere to generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Data analysis: Analyzing financial data to identify trends and potential issues.
- Budgeting: Assisting with the development and monitoring of budgets.
- Communication: Collaborating with other departments to gather information and provide financial updates.
- Work on special projects as needed.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS
- Understanding of accounting principles (GAAP)
- Must be reliable and highly trustworthy and have mathematical accuracy
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with Excel and Quickbooks or other accounting software
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting
At least 3 years of accounting experience in public accounting, corporate accounting, or internal controls.
